will support the critical work of the Queensland Institute of Medical Research, a world leader in cancer research and one of the largest and most successful medical research institutes in Australia. Originally established in 1945 by the Queensland Government to further the study of tropical diseases in North Queensland, QIMR has broadened its scope over time and now dedicates more than half of its research to cancer.
With more than 700 scientists and support staff working across 50 separate laboratories, QIMR has the unique capability of being able to take cancer research findings from the laboratory bench to the clinical bedside. Fundraising dollars will be put to immediate use by QIMR researchers translating groundbreaking research, and clinical trials into the breakthrough cancer care of tomorrow.
QIMR is raising community awareness of critical medical research and inspiring the scientists of tomorrow. Each year, QIMR opens its doors to more than 2,000 Queensland students from school-based education programs for primary students to postgraduate positions for Honours and PhD students.
